What is the Dental Veneer Procedure?

Consultation and Planning

During your first visit, Dr. Anderson will assess your teeth and discuss your goals for improving your smile. We will take X-rays and possibly make impressions of your teeth to determine the best approach. You’ll also learn the different types of veneers available (such as porcelain or composite resin) and help you choose the right material based on factors like durability, appearance, and cost.

Preparation of the Teeth

First with the Waterlase Laser, Dr Anderson will put the teeth to sleep with no needles. Once you’ve decided on the type of veneers, we will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the front surface of each tooth that will receive a veneer. This step is necessary to ensure that the veneers fit comfortably and look natural. Typically, about 0.5 to 1 millimeter of enamel is removed, which is roughly the thickness of the veneer.

Taking Impressions

After preparing your teeth, our team will take impressions (molds) of your teeth, which will be used to create custom veneers that match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. These impressions are sent to a dental lab where your veneers are crafted.

Temporary Veneers (if necessary)

While your permanent veneers are being made, you may be given temporary veneers to wear. These are placed to protect your prepared teeth and help you get used to the look and feel of the veneers.

Fitting and Bonding the Permanent Veneers

Once your permanent veneers are ready, typically in about 1-2 weeks, you will return to the office. Dr. Anderson will first place the veneers on your teeth to check their fit, color, and shape. We may make minor adjustments to ensure the veneers look natural and comfortable. Afterward, the teeth are cleaned, polished, and etched to help the veneer bond securely. You’ll then have a special adhesive applied to each veneer and we will use a curing light to harden the bonding material, securely attaching the veneers to your teeth.

Final Adjustments

Once the veneers are bonded, you’ll have final adjustments to ensure the veneers fit properly and your bite is correct. You may need to return for a follow-up visit to ensure everything is comfortable and functioning as expected.

Post-Procedure Care

After the procedure, you can enjoy your new smile right away. However, it’s important to take care of your veneers by practicing good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing regularly.
